The ability to conquer nature and survive long enough to be rescued--a skill that could have saved the lives of countless aircrew and passengers in the past--can save many lives in the future. Designed to be an easy-to-read instructional resource, this book teaches aircrews all the survival methods they are ever likely to need at sea, in the desert, jungle or Arctic. Illustrated throughout for ease of reference, it looks at the aircrew role in an aviation survival situation, at the equipment required, and at the possible scenarios. Its emphasis on crew behavior makes the book unique, whether the reader is involved in general aviation, airline industry or government service. Features include:

- Sea and land survival
- Desert, jungle and Arctic survival
- Preparation guidelines and initial actions

AWB281-01 SURVIVAL TACTICS FOR AIRLINE PASSENGERS
Ken Cubbin
While the title of this volume could be a reference to the standard of airline catering, the subject matter-as the cover suggests-is deadly serious. As a Boeing 747 flight engineer with 30 years in the airline business, holder of a black belt in martial arts, and an Airways contributor, the author knows his stuff. Apart from the obvious focus on preventing a repeat of September 11, including a section on martial arts training, there is sound and informed coverage of air rage incidents, smoke and fire in the cabin and evacuation, decompression, `water landings' (by non-amphibious types), and general comfort and safety tips for the air traveller. The contents are as much of interest to flightcrew as passengers and both groups should read this book-along with airline training departments. Whether or not you agree with all of the author's proposals, the essence of his message is that airline passengers must maintain responsibility for their own well being, and avoid dependency on others for their safety and health. Common sense not only for self-loading freight, but also for anyone, anywhere.
